UTA's Smart Thinking...

So, let me get this straight.

--> UTA completely overhauled their route system (arguably for the worst).
--> UTA took away 3 of the 4 routes that ran past my house, making it impossible for me to go anywhere after 7:30 AM and come home before 4:30 PM.
--> UTA eliminated stops along the route where people used to wait for the bus, and even tried adding stops in new places where no-one showed up.
--> UTA raised prices, again and again and again.
--> UTA made it impossible for me to come home from anywhere but the U (or a stop on that route) unless I want to walk a ton.
--> Even if I am willing to walk (which is really hard when it's snowing... aka when classes start), the latest I can catch the bus from the U is 6:30 PM.
--> This sucks, because many economics classes at the U don't end until 7 or 8 PM (totally stupid, by the way).
--> I can take a third route, but that drops me off so far that I'd need someone to come pick me up and give me a ride home.

And UTA did all of this (raising prices and cutting routes especially) so that they could add the UTA reader thing? What was wrong with the old system... where the cards were cheaper because they didn't need anything in them... you just showed it to the driver instead of "tap on, tap off"? I mean, at least that system worked every day.

So, to make it clear... UTA raised prices, lowered it's costs and added a system that costs more but doesn't work as well (at least one "it's not working" day every 2 weeks).

Way to go, morons. Bring back the old routes!

This is why I HATE that UTA has a monopoly on all the mass transit funding. I really wish we could create a competitive market for public transit. I think that would help make things a lot better.

Agreed. Anything that would make the system better is a good thing... and competition definitely fits.
