I just read Mystic River (by Dennis Lehane). I hadn't heard of Lehane until recently, when I was going through a list of to-be-released movies, and came across Shutter Island, which seemed interesting in plot. I saw that it was a book, and picked it up (because books are always better than the movies that come after).
I loved Shutter Island. And that was enough for me to try some more books by Lehane (I've got The Given Day over here as well). Anyhow, as I said, I just finished reading the book. First, the surprising thing is that it doesn't really deviate from the movie plot (some movies tend to do that... maybe Lehane is of a different breed). I haven't seen the movie, but I read the spoilers online.
I just have to say... the book is fairly depressing. Not really unexpected, given the subject matter, but still.
