It's kinda sad, isn't it, that we can be in the 21st century and still have so much discrimination going on? I mean, I understand that everyone has different views, for a variety of reasons... family (aka upbringing), teachings at school and stuff, religion, etc. It's understandable. But why all the discrimination?
Fine, not everyone has the same beliefs. But does that make acceptable to force your beliefs on others? Fine, you have your religious beliefs, and I have mine. Others will have their own. Lifestyle, etc... that's all up to the individual. No one is asking you to take part... but to just discriminate based on someone else's lifestyle is plain wrong.
In case it can't be told, I'm talking about gay marriage. No, I'm not gay, but I know people that are. It doesn't make them any worse of a human being. Yes, they are human beings.
There's nothing wrong with having your own views. If you don't like it, fine. But shouldn't people be at least a little open-minded? If your church is against it, so be it. No one is asking them to totally change their beliefs. But people should be free to live their life as they wish (exceptions, of course, in the case of crime, where it has the potential to hurt a lot of people). Let people live there life. It's almost as if people started discriminating against those that sing in the shower, or those that have a last name longer than 6 letters, or those that say pop instead of soda. It's a lifestyle choice (okay, the last name might not be, but whatever) that you've decided on... and it's your right.
As for your children learning that gays can get married... if you truly believe that it'll change their morals or something, you need to look at your parenting skills, not what the kids are learning in school. Parents have the biggest impact on their kids... not something you learn in school. Fine, they'll learn that gays can get married. It won't make them gay anymore that learning about biology will make them doctors. All it'll do is open their mind... something that most definitely should be encouraged. I mean, hiding the fact is like not letting your kids learn about the existence of alcohol to keep them from drinking. If you instill your morals in them, they'll probably keep them for life... even if there are other beliefs in the world.
Turning this into a political issue is just stupid... let people live their lives, and live your own. It's really that simple. If you don't like their view, don't participate. But don't force them to stop living either.
