Some books are just plain amazing.
This is one of them.
Though I've never read Jane Eyre (it supposedly helps understand a plot twist or something in this book... something I obviously missed if true), I never really felt lost/confused as The Eyre Affair went on.
It all takes place in a weird world where people can enter/leave books. The villain, the world's "Third Most Wanted Criminal" decides to try and get some money by kidnapping first a character from Martin Chuzzlewit, and when that fails... Edward Rochester from Jane Eyre.
Our main character, Thursday Next, finds herself in the mix, trying to save Mr. Rochester (who has saved her once before as well?!?) and prevent the villain from forever changing the script of Jane Eyre (he has stolen the original script, so any change will impact every Jane Eyre book out there immediately). Helping Next are her time-traveling father, a couple of unfortunate partners, one fortunate partner, other co-workers, and a character from the all-powerful Goliath Corporation known as Jack Schitt. Seriously. (There's also a character known as Paige Turner at the very end as well.)
I would much recommend the book. Go read it. As for the sequels... I'll have to get back to you after I read them.
Stick to baseball, 1/25/25.
